Gandhiji's dream India, based on "rural development"
Gandhiji’s dreamt as India resided in villages, he considered Panchayati Raj, Village Industries, Women’s empowerment, Village welfare and overall village development as the main pillars. Mahatma Gandhi has written in ‘India of my dreams’, “Everything about India attracts me. Whatever a person with all the ambitions needs for his development, he can get it in India.” This will be possible only with the development of villages. While sharing his views on the rural environment of India, Gandhiji had said that ‘The meaning of India’s independence should be the independence of the whole of India and this independence should start from the bottom. Only then will the villages become a republic. Hence, according to this, the villages should be self-dependent and capable. In the coming times, the villages will have to play an important role in the development of the country.

Mahatma Gandhi has written in ‘India of my dreams’ that ‘Everything about India attracts me. Whatever a person who has all the ambitions needs for his development, he can get it in India. Villages will have to play an important role in the development of the region in the times to come…
The concept of Gram Sansad has been framed on this basis. ‘Gram Sansad’ is a non-political forum where the representatives of the village, public servants, people from corporate sector and policy makers work together to bring about change and development in the rural areas. Gram Sansad helps in implementation of the schemes being run by the Central Government and State Government for bringing about developmental changes in the rural areas through the Panchayat representatives.
